As expected this first week has been difficult to start a routine, being torn in a hundred different directions with work, home and spiritual goals and stressors. I am finding that one of the most difficult things is to find motivation once I get back from a long day of work or first thing in the morning before heading out for the day. It is so easy to simply say, oh I did not have a perfect start so I will try tomorrow or that I’m so tired that it wouldn’t be worth it. These types of thoughts have been the bane of my existence for years.
To counter this, it has been important for me to remember that I do not have to get everything right for a day to be worth it. Even if I only take five minutes to meditate, it means that I have practiced five more minutes than the day before. It’s like reading a book, if you read only one page a day you will eventually be done with the book as opposed to waiting till you have time to read several chapters at once.
So with this in mind, I was able to set aside time on three days to focus for a bit on my spiritual journey. I have opted to start with meditations and basic energy work. These are two of the core skills required for developing a greater spiritual understanding and can work for anyone, be they religious, spiritual or agnostic. I also believe those who are atheists could benefit from this as well even if they believe that death of the physical body is the end of consciousness. That belief does not alter the power of focused thought through the will to help you achieve.
I plan on writing my initial thoughts on meditation and the basic western esoteric principles in the coming days. I find that if I write things down it clarifies them in my mind. More to follow soon!
